Granville Seymour Redmond was a California Impressionist artist and his paintings display techniques of pointillism, tonalism and Impressionism. Born in Philadelphia in 1871, Granville Redmond came down with scarlet fever at the age of two and half this left him deaf and speechless for the rest of his life.

In 1874, Granville Seymour Redmond and his family relocated to San Jose, California and he received formal art training at the San Francisco School of Design. There he studied painting under Arthur Mathews and Amedee Joulin.

The artistic talent and painting skills displayed by Granville Redmond at the school earned him a medal of excellence and a scholarship to attend the Academie Julian in Paris. While in Paris Granville Redmond studied under Jean Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant. Once again Granville Redmond's mastery of art and painting won him recognition and in fact a painting he submitted to the Paris Salon of 1895 was accepted.

In 1898 Granville Redmond returned to the United States and settled in Los Angeles. He enjoyed creating paintings of Laguna Beach, Catalina Island and San Pedro. Charlie Chaplin was a friend of Granville Redmond and also a ardent supporter of his art and paintings. Charlie Chaplin was such an admirer of Granville Seymour Redmond that he gave him a painting studio on his movie lot plus a number of small parts in his films.

Granville Redmond submitted paintings to major California art exhibitions and achieved notoriety for his artwork. He traveled throughout the area creating California landscape paintings and utilized very vivid colors. He is best known for his paintings of the rolling hills of California, especially scenes that include poppies and lupine and other wildflowers. It was later in Granville Redmond's career that he began to utilize techniques of Pointillism in his paintings.

Granville Redmond died in Los Angeles, California in 1935.
