An important American Impressionism and California Impressionist artist, Edgar Payne was primarily a self-taught artist who left home at the age of fourteen to make his way in the world. Edgar Payne and his wife (artist Elsie Payne) lived in Laguna Beach, CA for many years. Although Edgar Payne painted many different subjects during his lifetime, he is best known for his beautiful landscapes of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
